Payson Jones AMM1c (T), USNR WWII

Born November 12th, 1922

Enlisted May 11th, 1942 at age 19

Trained at: Naval Training Station Newport Rhode Island; NAS Jacksonville training with VBU OTU 2; and NAS Fort Lauderdale where he graduated as a Machinist Mate 3c.

Served aboard the USS Bunker Hill

Served with Close Air Support: CAS Unit 7; then with CAS Unit 1. 

Ratings held: AS (Apprentice Seaman), Aviation Machinist Mate Ranks: AMM3c, AMM2c, AMM1c (T)

Honorable discharge September 25th, 1945.

After graduation from NAS Fort Lauderdale, Payson served in the Navy working as an Aviation Machinist Mate first class technician (AMM1c-T) stationed at Pearl Harbor. And then served aboard the USS Bunker Hill. After the war, Payson Jones went to work for Harvey Steel Co. in Boston as a salesman, and then continued with Ryerson Steel for 42 years until retirement.
